Looking for epic castles and breathtaking river scenery? A day trip east along the Danube River leads to Golubac Fortress and the Iron Gates (Đerdap Gorge)—one of Europe’s most dramatic natural landscapes.
Stop 1: Golubac Fortress
Perched dramatically on the cliffside where the Danube River narrows, Golubac Fortress looks straight out of a fairy tale. Built in the 14th century, this 9-tower stronghold guarded the border between the Ottoman and Hungarian Empires.

Stop 2: Boat Cruise through the Iron Gates
